Our dental practice often recommends dental sealants as a preventative treatment. It is recommended for children who have recently had their permanent molars erupt, usually between the ages of 6 and 12. Sealants can also be used for adult patients who are more prone to dental decay.

Sealants are comprised of a clear or tooth-colored resin that is placed into the pits and grooves of the teeth. This seal helps to prevent bacteria and food from getting trapped and causing dental decay. Since the resin is applied in a thin, smooth coating, dental sealants are non-intrusive and do not interfere with normal dental hygiene habits, such as brushing and flossing. This easily applied treatment can protect teeth for many years with proper care and reapplication. The application of dental sealants is quick and painless, and typically only requires one visit to our office.
